Dear Randy & Shelly,
Three
weeks have passed since Linda and I left our vacation home
in the Caribbean, and we still miss Three Moons greatly. We
had such a wonderful trip cruising the British Virgin Islands
that I wanted to write you after we took some time to reflect
on what was probably the most perfect vacation we have taken
in years.
It
is difficult to know where to begin, so I'll start at the
beginning. When we arrived at the wharf in Charlotte Amalie,
both of you were there waiting for us. When you learned that
certain "Y chromosome challenged members" of the group just
had to go shopping, you accommodated us immediately. Berne
and I were sent off to the boat with Randy and the luggage,
while Shelly and the others spent quality time in the market.
This event was just the first of many times when you asked
us what we wanted to do and then went out of your way to make
sure that we did what we wanted.
Three
Moons, itself, was a dream boat for us. The accommodations
for the group could not have been better. As we anticipated
from your brochure, the boat's interior was beautifully appointed
and maintained in top condition. Our cabins were spacious,
even grand for a 65 foot ketch. The beds were comfortable,
and each of us had our own head. Linda and I have stayed in
many land based hotels that did not offer as much comfort
as your vessel.
How
was the food? I'm glad you asked. We could not have had better
meals if we had eaten at a five-star restaurant each meal.
Our breakfasts in the cockpit were just the right thing to
begin an active day of sailing, snorkeling, and sightseeing.
Our lunches were delicious and just the right amount for a
pick-me-up at mid-day. Pre-dinner cocktail munchies were also
first rate. In fact, Linda has recently used the Gouda Wrap
recipe. While it was not quite as good as Shelly's, it was
delicious. Finally, our dinners were the best. Each night
a different type of meal was presented with the perfect accompanying
wine. Everything that we had was something that we all loved,
and it was cooked to perfection. The wine steward and waiter
treated us as well as our favorite waiter in the world, Trinity
at Antoine's in New Orleans. What more could we have asked?
There
was one interesting thing. Some of us could not eat what the
others could. That problem did not stop you. Each meal where
there was some need for a different dish, you were able to
prepare something that was just as good for that particular
person. Who will ever forget the brownies without the pecans
that you made for Gretchen? And the manner in which you served
those special dishes was superb in that you did not make the
person receiving it feel out of place. This special treatment
is another example of why Three Moons sets the standard for
cruising in the Caribbean.
A
sailing trip to the islands would be nothing without cruising.
After all, we went on a cruise. Once again, you exceeded our
expectations. We sailed or cruised every day in an amount
that was just perfect. While we could not be solely under
sail several times because lack of wind, when we had wind
we sailed. Our crew enjoyed driving, as did I the times I
took the helm. I also enjoyed sitting on the bow with my daughter
Heidi and watching the islands glide by.
Our
other activities were great fun also. Snorkeling, swimming,
wind-surfing, skiing, ocean kayaking: they were wonderful.
As usual, there was just the right mix of these daily activities
with the other required events of the day: sunning, shopping,
cocktailing, and munching.
But
the thing we enjoyed the most was getting to know you. We
could not have asked for a better Captain and First Mate-
I'll let you determine who had which job. Randy was always
available to help with the work of getting us from place to
place or getting us organized for a sightseeing or snorkeling
trip. No question about where we were, where we were going,
how to get there, how to navigate the vessel, or how to set
up our gear was too trivial for him not to give us his full
attention. Shelly was always available for us when we needed
her. The Spa Services and the foot massages were great. Once
again, she gave us her all when we asked with no hesitation.
In all, you made us feel that Three Moons was our home and
we were part of your family. We could not have had the perfect
vacation without the perfect crew.
When
we left the islands a few weeks ago, we were all quite sad
because a vacation of lifetime had ended. Now we can all look
back on our week at sea with fond memories that all of us
will treasure for the rest of our lives. Thank you both for
allowing us this experience.
